Milei's Political Ideology

Milei's political ideology is influenced by several thinkers and schools of thought that share his libertarian views. Some of them are:

  • The Austrian School of economics: Milei follows the teachings of Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Murray Rothbard, Hans-Hermann Hoppe, and other economists who emphasize the role of human action, subjective value, marginal utility, time preference, capital structure, monetary theory, business cycle theory, spontaneous order, and praxeology (the science of human action) in the market process.

  • The Classical Liberalism: Milei admires the works of Adam Smith, John Locke, David Hume, John Stuart Mill, Alexis de Tocqueville, and other philosophers who advocate for the principles of natural rights, limited government, rule of law, separation of powers, checks and balances, democracy, free speech, religious tolerance, and individual liberty.

  • The Anarcho-Capitalism: Milei is influenced by the ideas of Murray Rothbard, David Friedman, Lysander Spooner, and other thinkers who propose a stateless society based on voluntary associations, private law, private defense, private arbitration, and free market anarchism.

  • The Objectivism: Milei is inspired by the philosophy of Ayn Rand, who promotes the values of rationality, egoism, individualism, capitalism, and self-interest. He also appreciates her novels, such as Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, which depict heroic characters who struggle against collectivist forces.

Milei's Media Presence and Controversies

Milei is a frequent guest on various television and radio shows in Argentina, where he expresses his opinions on current affairs and debates with other guests. He is known for his provocative and confrontational style, often using insults, sarcasm, humor, and gestures to make his points. He is also very active on social media platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, where he has millions of followers. He uses these channels to communicate with his supporters, share his views, promote his books and events, and criticize his opponents.

Milei's media presence has also generated many controversies and criticisms from different sectors of society. Some of the most notable ones are:

  • In 2017, he had a heated argument with Leandro Santoro , a politician from the ruling party Frente de Todos (Front of All), on the TV show Intratables (Unmanageable). Milei accused Santoro of being a "socialist parasite" and a "thief", while Santoro called Milei a "fascist" and a "clown". The exchange went viral on social media and sparked a public debate on the role of the state in the economy.

  • In 2018, he was involved in a physical altercation with Diego Brancatelli , a journalist and supporter of former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner , on the TV show Animales Sueltos (Loose Animals). Milei pushed Brancatelli after he interrupted him during a discussion on inflation. The incident was widely condemned by other journalists and politicians as an act of violence and intolerance.

In 2019, he was sued by Martín Tetaz , an economist and professor at the University of Buenos Aires , for defamation
